Gov. Roy Cooper today ordered all North Carolina state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, November 1st, from sunrise to sunset, in tribute to the Department of Public Safety employee, Wendy Shannon.  She  passed on Monday evening after suffering multiple injuries while on duty at Pasquotank Correctional Institution on Thursday, October 12th. Shannon began her career at Pasquotank Correctional Institute on Oct. 21, 2013 as a correctional officer.

Gov. Roy Cooper today ordered all North Carolina state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Friday, October 13 from sunrise to sunset on Monday, October 16 in tribute to the two Department of Public Safety employees who died in the line of duty Thursday afternoon at Pasquotank Correctional Institution. Correctional Officer Justin Smith had worked as a correctional officer since 2012.
