History of the Commission

The NC Domestic Violence Commission supports domestic violence survivors statewide by approving court-ordered domestic violence intervention programs, evaluating services, policies & programs provided to survivors, and recommending new programs.

Legislative Recommendations

The Domestic Violence Commission is statutorily charged with developing and recommending proposals for how best to meet the needs of domestic violence victims and to prevent domestic violence in the state.

External Interpreting Resources for Deaf Providers

DeafLEAD

DeafLEAD offers interpreting crisis hotline services for individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, hard of hearing, or late deafened.

Activating Change

Activating Change offers a national sign language interpreting program for victim services providers. 

Priority consideration is given to organizations who have immediate need for interpretation services, are in rural and remote communities or communities with limited to no sign language interpreters qualified to interpret in victim services, or lack financial resources.

 

About the Commission

The Domestic Violence Commission consists of 38 members who reflect the geographic and cultural regions of the State. 

The purpose of the Commission is to:

  • assess statewide needs related to domestic violence
  • assure that necessary services, policies, and programs are provided to those in need
  • strengthen the existing domestic violence programs that have been established pursuant to G.S. 50B-9 and are funded through the Domestic Violence Center Fund
  • recommend new domestic violence programs
