All U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities will remain at half-staff until sunset Sept. 19, 2022, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II who passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8. As we continue to honor the life of Queen Elizabeth II, we also pause this weekend to pay tribute to Patriot Day, also known as the National Day of Service and Remembrance. Sunday marks the 21st anniversary of 9/11. Gone but never forgotten, this day honors the victims of the terrorist attack, their families and the heroic sacrifices of first responders.  Please join us as we remember the innocent lives lost during one of the most deadly attacks on U.S. soil.

Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed August 26 as Women’s Equality Day in North Carolina to honor women leaders across the state and encourage residents to support organizations that advocate for social progress and equity for women.

Youth councils, local governments and private or non-profit agencies with ideas for innovative programs to help North Carolina’s teens can now apply for grants up to $500 through the State Youth Council’s Mini Grant program. Beginning today the North Carolina Department of Administration’s Council for Women & Youth Involvement will accept applications from organizations that build character and leadership skills among North Carolina youth through peer-to-peer community projects. The application deadline is Sept. 30.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on August 20, 2022, in honor of state employee Anna Bradshaw who died last Friday while helping clean up debris and divert traffic after a storm in Wilson, North Carolina. She was an 11-year veteran with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.Funeral services for Bradshaw will be held on Saturday, August 20, in Wilson County.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Administration (NCDOA) Secretary Pamela B. Cashwell toured the new NCDOA Mail Service Center and viewed the new fleet of NCDOA electric vans that are used for mail delivery. “North Carolina is focused on transitioning to a clean transportation future, and state government is leading the way,” Governor Cooper said. “These electric vans are just one example of how our state is working to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, boost our economy and save taxpayers money.”

Today, Governor Roy Cooper reestablished the Andrea Harris Equity Task Force through an Executive Order to continue the work that the group has done to address social, economic and health disparities in underserved and underrepresented communities.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff in honor of Wake County Sheriff's Office Deputy Ned Byrd who was killed in the line of duty overnight. Details are still emerging as the investigation continues into the incident along Battle Bridge Road in southern Wake County.    Statement from Governor Roy Cooper “We’re deeply grateful for Wake County Deputy Ned Byrd’s service to our state. Our prayers and condolences are with his friends and family,” said Governor Roy Cooper.  

Governor Roy Cooper is extending the half-staff order for all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities  in honor of Wayne County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Matthew Fishman. Beginning today through sunset August 9, all flags are to remain at half-staff. Services for Sgt. Fishman will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9 at the University of Mount Olive's Kornegay Arena in Dudley, North Carolina. In tribute to his life and service, flags have been lowered in his honor since Tuesday, August 2.
