Applications can be submitted as soon as the application portal opens in early January and the firm deadline for applications is the end of February. However, the application due date can change from year to year. 

Summer 2025 Timeline

  • Jan. 6, 2025 — Application period opens

  • Feb. 24, 2025 — Application period closes

  • March 19-28, 2025 — Phone interviews

  • April 28, 2025 — Notification of Lady Cardinal placement

  • July 7, 2025 — Lady Cardinal Orientation 

  • July 7 - Aug. 1, 2025 — Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program  

Students who want to apply for the Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a North Carolina High School, public, private, charter, or homeschool (grades 9 – 12). Rising 9th graders are not eligible to apply for the program. 

  • Be a resident of North Carolina.  

Yes, all mentorship opportunities will be located in the Raleigh area. We strongly encourage students from all over North Carolina to apply for the program.  

Unfortunately, we do not provide housing for participants.

We provide transportation to Chat & Chews and Enhancement Opportunities on Wednesdays and Thursdays. However, it is the responsibility of the mentee to have transportation to their designated department and the Department of Administration every day.  

The program is 4 weeks. Orientation and the first day of work are on July 7, 2024.

Students will receive their stipend on their second to last day of the program.

Students should submit their documents via email to doa.youth.involvement@doa.nc.gov.  

If a student does not submit their documents, they will have forfeited their application and will not move forward in the application process.
