Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 23, in honor of US Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, who passed away Tuesday, July 16. Justice Stevens, who retired in 2010, was the 3rd longest-serving Justice in the history of the US Supreme Court. A private funeral service for the late Justice Stevens will be held on July 23 at the Arlington National Cemetery.
Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are welcome to fly the flag at half-staff for the same duration of time.
