Raleigh, NC
Nov 1, 2017

North Carolina residents attending a college, university, technical institute or community college have until Monday, January 15, 2018 to apply for paid state government internships available for summer 2018. The 2018 State Government Internship Guide describing all available opportunities and rules is now online at http://ncadmin.nc.gov/internshipnc.

The NC Council for Women & Youth Involvement Division within the NC Department of Administration administers the Internship program, which will begin on May 21, 2018 and conclude on July 27, 2018. Interns earn a stipend of $8.25 per hour and work 40 hours per week for 10 weeks in the summer.

Governor Cooper’s State of NC Internship Program offers students real-world experience in a wide range of state government workplaces. Internships provide opportunities for students to work in their chosen field and to consider careers in public service. More than 4,000 North Carolinians have participated since the program was established in 1969.

“These paid internships open doors for students throughout state government. We offer an array of meaningful and professional work experiences across North Carolina from the mountains to the sea,” said Candace Dudley, Internship Coordinator, NC Council for Women & Youth Involvement Office. The internships integrate education, career development, and public service. Opportunities exist in numerous recognized fields of study, from accounting to zoology. Interns will also participate in other activities that broaden their knowledge of public service and State Government, such as seminars and site visits.

Interns are selected through a competitive process overseen by the NC Internship Council. Selection is based on a thorough review of applications, including academic records and interest in State Government. Qualified candidates may be selected to interview with prospective supervisors, and matches are made.
