The State of North Carolina Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission will hold its annual "Content of Character" workshop on June 10.
The purpose of the workshop is to provide young people with a safe learning environment that allows them to participate in interactive sessions focused on building the character they will need to be successful in the world today.
The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Calvary Baptist Church, 1311 Morehead Ave., Durham. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
Participants can attend one of two workshops: "Does the Music of Today Build Character?" by Micheal Reece or "Do the Right Thing, Academics, Athletics and Character" facilitated by Greg Akinbiyi and Anthony Bennett. Dr. Telika McCoy, a youth pastor and seminary professor, will deliver keynote remarks.
The workshop’s theme is taken from Dr. King’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech where he said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
