N.C. Department of Administration Secretary Machelle Sanders today announced that 80 North Carolina college, graduate and law students are beginning paid internships across state government.
“We welcome our student interns and look forward to the innovative, creative thinking they will bring during the program,” Secretary Sanders said. “The internship is an opportunity for students to learn about our state and careers in public service. Most importantly, our interns have a great opportunity to serve the citizens of North Carolina.”
The State of North Carolina Internship Program provides students with hands-on training in a wide range of state government workplaces, creating opportunities for students to work in their chosen field and to consider careers in public service.
Students participating in this year’s internship program are from 35 North Carolina counties and 28 different universities and colleges.
Examples of internships include positions with the Governor’s Office, interns for the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals, positions as legislative research assistants, and various positions with state museums, aquariums and hospitals. This program provides opportunities for most academic majors.
The program, established in 1969, is the oldest and one of the largest paid state government internship programs in the country. The State of North Carolina Internship Program is coordinated by the N.C. Council for Women & Youth Involvement in the Department of Administration. More than 4,000 students have participated in the program since its establishment.
Interns are paid $8.25 an hour and will work for 10 weeks.
