The License to Give Trust Fund Commission is currently accepting grant proposals from North Carolina-based non-profit organizations in a new streamlined grant process. The new process is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to increase the understanding of and support for organ and tissue donation, as well as advance care planning.
The Fast Track Grant Submission Program will provide awards up to $10,000 based on a project’s relevancy to N.C.G.S. § 20-7.6; specifically, “awarding grants-in-aid to non-profit entities to conduct education and awareness activities on organ and tissue donation and advance care planning.” Projects must have durations of less than 12 months or be for related one-time events.
Non-profit organizations interested in applying must meet the grant criteria and all provisions of North Carolina General Statute § 143-6.2. More information can be found at ncgrants.gov. Complete details regarding these grants are available on the Commission website at ncadmin.nc.gov/ltgtfc.
Recently, the Commission completed its 19th grant cycle and award grant-in-aid to the Community Health Coalition, Inc., a non-profit organization in Durham. The organization was awarded $84,250 for end-of-life planning outreach.
The organization’s project will focus on educating and bringing awareness about end-of-life planning and organ donation to local clergy, hospice care facilities, funeral home directors and other affinity groups in Durham, Orange and Granville counties. Outreach will target residents in these counties to encourage organ donor registration through the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles or online at DonateLifeNC.org.
The purpose of the education and awareness activities on organ and tissue donation is to increase and/or improve organ, tissue and eye donation. The purpose of education and awareness on advance care planning is to encourage thoughtful end-of-life decisions, including organ and tissue donation as a significant consideration.
