Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning today, August 5, 2021 until sunset Saturday, August 7, 2021 in honor of NC House of Representative Jerry Carter, who passed away on Tuesday. All North Carolinians are encouraged to display the US flag to honor our country, history, servicemembers and veterans of the US Armed Forces.

Services for Watauga County Sheriff Office's Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox will be held at 3 pm today, May 6 at Appalachian State University Holmes Convocation Center. A private ceremony will also be held for Sgt. Ward on May 7.

Abigail Jenks who passed away on April 19 during a training exercise. She was part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Spc. Jenks day of interment is May 2. Mondale was the 42nd Vice President of the United States serving from 1977 to 1981 under President Jimmy Carter. Originally from Ceylon, Minnesota, Mondale served in the US Army during the Korean War. He also served as the Attorney General of Minnesota before becoming a US Senator for his home state from 1964-1976.
